What it does
Mix & Match More adds a “build a set” button to your product pages. A shopper opens it and pairs one product from your “top” type with one from your “bottom” type — for example a bikini top with a bikini bottom — and adds the whole set to the cart in one step, landing as two matched lines. It matches products from your own catalog and runs entirely on your storefront; no shopper data is sent to us.
Requirements
Before it can work on your store you need:
- An Online Store 2.0 theme (any modern app-block-capable theme). A legacy “vintage” theme has nowhere to place the block — the app’s Placements page will tell you if your theme can’t host it.
- Products with consistent product types — the app pairs by product type (see “Set up your catalog” below).
- At least one collection the sets are drawn from, with two or more products in it.
Mix & Match More installs from its Shopify App Store listing, which isn't live yet; until it is, the Contact section below is how to reach us. Once it's installed, follow the steps below.
Add the block to your theme
- In the app, open Placements (or the Placements card on the app’s home page), choose a theme if it offers one, and click Add To Shop. This opens your theme editor with the Mix & Match More block ready to add to your product template.
- Add the block where you want the button to appear, then Save. Always add it through the theme editor — it places the block correctly for you. Don’t hand-edit theme files.
- Come back to the app. Each placement now lists the themes the block is live on under Currently in use, or shows Not added, or that the theme can’t host app blocks — so you don’t have to guess whether the last step worked.
Set up your catalog
Mix & Match pairs products by their product type, matched exactly (case doesn’t matter). Out of the box it looks for products typed Top and Bottom. If your catalog uses different types — say Bikini Top and Swim Bottom — set your two types in the app under Builder Settings → Products & pairing, or nothing will match.
The app’s home page shows a check: “N tops and N bottoms match your set types.” If either number is 0, shoppers will see nothing — fix your types (or your products’ types) until both are non-zero.
A few more rules the pairing follows:
- Collections. Sets are drawn from a collection you choose (or, on a product page, the product’s own collections). A source collection needs at least two products. Generic catch-all collections —
all,frontpageandnew-arrivals— are skipped by default so shoppers don’t get random pairings; adjust that excluded-collections list under Builder Settings if it hides one you want to build from. - Tags (optional). On a product page, if the product a shopper is viewing has tags, candidates must share at least one tag with it. Untagged products pair across the whole collection. Keep tags meaningful (e.g. a family or colour), not generic.
- Scale. For speed, each build scans up to a few collections and up to 60 candidates per side — plenty for a set builder, but worth knowing on very large catalogs.
Choose the card image
To control which image shows on a product’s card in the builder, add the text #mixandmatchmore anywhere in that image’s alt text (in Shopify’s product media editor). The app uses the first image whose alt text contains that marker.
If you don’t mark any image, the card falls back to the product’s featured (or first) image — a card is never blank, so this step is optional polish.
Discounts
When you configure a set discount, the builder shows shoppers a projected “You save” figure. That number is a display only — it does not create a real discount by itself. To actually give the saving, create a matching Shopify automatic discount in your admin (Discounts → an automatic “amount off products/collections”). A percentage is safest; a fixed amount isn’t converted for international currencies.
You can optionally have the builder apply a discount code when a set is added. If you do, note that the code is included in your storefront’s page source — never use a private, single-use, or sensitive code here. A public automatic discount is the recommended path.
Verify it works
Once it’s set up, confirm the whole flow end to end:
- On a live product page, open the builder, pick a top and a bottom, and add the set — you should see two matched lines in the cart.
- The Placements page lists your live theme under Currently in use.
- The app’s home page shows non-zero tops and bottoms matching your set types.
Template edits reach your storefront through Shopify’s cache, so a change saved in Builder Settings can take a while to show on a live product page. If you edit a template under Content → Metaobjects instead, keep the entry active: a draft entry is invisible to the storefront, and the block silently falls back to its built-in defaults.
Your plan
On a paid plan, the app shows your tier and any remaining trial days. If a surface isn’t part of your current plan, its card shows “Choose a plan” and links to the plan page.
If you uninstall, the block stops rendering on your storefront and the app clears its entitlement data — but the set templates you created stay in your own Shopify store, yours to keep or remove.
